Helene Ferenz Critler,
1906 Earthquake Survivor
Helene Critler was one of Bernal Heights' earthquake survivors. Tom Ferenz, her great-nephew, gave a speech to his students in Half Moon Bay to mark the centenary of the earthquake and fire. Helene passed away at the age of 104 in late April 2006, not long after the centennial celebrations: Carl Nolte wrote an entertaining obituary for her in the San Francisco Chronicle.
