Bernal Heights in 1922 -- and 1933!
Thanks to the volunteers at SF Genealogy and Distant Cousin, who dedicated themselves to scanning thousands of pages, Bernal History Project went through the 1922 San Francisco city directory to gather the names, addresses, and occupations of all Bernal residents in that year. Then, since the 1933 phone directory was easily accessible, we cross-referenced that with the 1922 directory.
Notes: All spellings are verbatim; multiple entries reflect multiple spellings given in the sources.Obviously, not everyone had a telephone in 1933 -- so don't be dismayed by the paucity of the entries. Names and addresses in italics denote entries that were not found in the 1922 directory. This may be because the building was constructed after the 1922 directory was compiled, or because BHP's researchers missed it while reading each page.
This is an ongoing project -- we hope to compile info from all the existing city directories to build up a comprehensive picture of Bernal Heights as it evolved.
